Veterans’ Licence Plates

Eligible Albertans can receive special veterans’ licence plates for their motor vehicles including motorcycles, passenger cars, SUVs, station wagons, minivans, motor homes, light trucks and farm vehicles with Class 2 commercial registration.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Alberta-NWT Command must approve all applications.

An Application for a Veteran’s Licence Plate form must be completed and mailed to the Royal Canadian Legion Alberta-NWT Command. Once you are approved, you can bring the form into Rangeland Agencies and you will have three options:

  1. To be issued a Veterans’ licence plate, the applicant must present the duplicate approved application to an Alberta Registry Agent. Normal requirements with respect to the issuing of licence plates (verification of valid insurance, proof of ownership, personal identification) will apply.
  2. Renew your motor vehicle registration ahead of the regularly scheduled date and pay the cost of vehicle registration renewal (the plate exchange fee will not be charged)
  3. Renew the motor vehicle registration ahead of the regularly scheduled date and pay the cost of the next annual vehicle registration (the plate exchange fee will not be charged)
